Soloist Performance at the 25th Seoul Performing Arts Festival (SPAF) A hugely successful collaborative project with the visual artist Vakki, Riverrun presents a refined, sensual and multi-dimensional performance that blends installation art, media, dance and music (Monn Yirang) on the stage. The title, Riverrun, is the very first word of James Joyce’s novel Finnegans Wake, which ends with an incomplete sentence and the word ‘the’, which takes the reader back to the beginning. Just like the cyclical structure of the novel, Cha’s soloist work considers the cyclic process of our life and universe as an illogical story. With no clear cut beginning or end, there can be no clear meaning. The moment we realise this, we are overcome with vertigo, just like objects thrown into a flowing river in the middle of the night.
